Catalogue Note

This is a characteristic and engaging example of Giambattista's caricatures, of which we know that at least three albums existed.  One of these volumes, with the original title 'Tomo Terzo di caricature',  contained one hundred and seven caricatures and was broken up after 1943.  This album was in the possession of Gian Domenico after his father's death and, as pointed out by Byam Shaw, Gian Domenico made frequent use of these figures in his own later drawings.
