Description

  • Black chalk and grey wash, within black ink framing lines;
    signed with initials and dated in black chalk, lower right: VG 1652

Provenance

Dr. Suchet, Paris (according to 19th Century inscription on reverse of old mount)

Condition

Sold in attractive carved and gilded frame. Laid down on old mount. The paper is slightly yellowed and there is very pale foxing throughout. There is a small worm-type hole to the lower left, on the foreground bank to the right of the seated figure. The chalk still strong.
