Condition

Floating on rice paper support. Very slight losses along bottom of right edge. Crease in paper across middle, through face, and another at angle top right corner, and across middle of sheet but not distracting. Good condition overall.

Catalogue Note

Although it has not been connected, this is surely a study for a specific figure in a composition such as Uriah kneeling before David. Drawings by Eeckhout have often also been attributed to Backer and to Flinck, but this study seems closer to Eeckhout's manner of drawing and can be dated to the early 1660s.2
