Catalogue Note

Alessandro Galli Bibiena was the eldest son of Ferdinando, and the majority of his work, mostly associated with his activity as a scenographer, is today in Munich.  The Graphische Sammlung has the largest known group of Bibiena drawings, over six hundred and fifty sheets which came from the court of Mannheim, for whom Alessandro worked almost exclusively.1  The artist has here embellished his composition not just with generic decorative sculptures but with famous antique statues.
