- Both oil on paper, within brown framing lines;
both signed with a monogram: JMR
Condition
Both sold in modern wood frames. Both laid down on old mounts. There are small losses to some corners of each sheet, and one has a diagonal crease across the lower right corner. Some slight creases in the paper from where laid down. Otherwise the condition is fine and the medium still strong.

Catalogue Note
This type of subject is unusual for Roos, who was primarily a landscape artist, but there can be no question about the attribution, as both drawings are clearly signed. He may, however, have been looking for inspiration at the work of earlier Dutch artists such as Jan Miense Molenaer.
