There are artist's pinholes in the upper left corner, although these would have been made during the creation of the work. There is a small area of fine craquelure within the lower right corner. The surface of the work is dirty and would benefit from a professional clean. Otherwise the work appears to be in its original condition. Held in a grey, gilt, wood and plaster frame. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a small spot of retouching just above the left hand side of his collar.
