Pour une aiguière comparable par le même orfèvre, voir Sotheby's Paris, 28 mars 2007, n° 244.
Le poinçon d'orfèvre est indiscutablement celui de Jean-Melchior Dartois (1726-1804), un des plus importants orfèvres liégeois de la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle. Cependant, cette pièce est signée sur la bâte du pied Iaques Dartois pour Jacques Dartois, présent dans le Bénézit en tant que sculpteur et orfèvre né à Liège en 1754 et mort en cette ville en 1848. Jacques Dartois est le fils de Jean-Melchior.
