Catalogue Note

Following his apprenticeship, Eloi-Denis Thierry became master on 4 December 1773 from the rue de la Vieille Monnaie, sponsored by Pierre-Silvain Mornay. In 1778, he was declared absent; in 1779 his wife, Madeleine-Louise Jacob, formally announced their separation in the Journal de Paris and in 1781 he is listed as en province. From 1784, following the death of his mother-in-law, veuve Jacob, until 1789 he is recorded as living and presumably working at various addresses in Paris.
