Condition

Marked on cover, liner and foot, also struck with Dutch1817-1953 import marks - A few cracks to upper part of ivory sleeve, stipple engraving with some wear, gilding attractive colour, generally a nice piece. The ivory bacchanalian putti are heavily influenced by Rubens and Francois Duquesnoy and hence we would suggest a carver who was working within the circle of / follower of Georg Petel (1601-1635). He travelled to Antwerp in 1625 and was recognised in Rome and Genoa . Ferdinand Murmann is a possibility .
