  • the ivory sleeve carved with a battle between Turks and Imperial warriors, including cavalry, repeated at the finial between single figures, the mounts embossed and chased with war trophies

Condition

Marked on body, cover, foot and handle Finial slightly pushed into cover and possible repair to silver at this junction, some small losses to the ivory (swords daggers etc.) and ivory finial a bit loose in its crimped border. Generally ivory in good condition without obvious cracks. Gilding of mounts may have been refreshed but very nice colour. Fully marked on body, cover, foot and handle Generally a nice big piece

Catalogue Note

Il existe de nombreuses cornes de rhinocéros sculptées et des objets en ivoire montés en vermeil dans d'importantes collections telles la collection de la Voûte Verte à Dresde et la collection Schatzkammer à Munich. Une chope en ivoire aux montures exécutées par Eissler similaire au présent modèle pour lequel l'ivoire a été sculpté par Georg Kern, figurait parmi la collection des Margrave de Baden et fut vendu chez Sotheby's lors de la vente Baden Baden, 21 octobre 1995, lot 482.
