Condition

Fully and clearly marked below the base, maker's mark also struck on cover inside, cover fits well, tiny scratches of use, the applied gold rim with few parts of the triangular decoration missing.

Catalogue Note

L'application partielle de décors en filigrane est rarissime pour l'argenterie hollandaise du XVIIIe siècle, cette influence venant probablement de Russie ou des colonies hollandaises. Parmi les orfèvres ayant utilisé cette technique figure Isacq Samuel Busard, même si son style tendait à recouvrir l'intégralité de la surface en filigrane et non partiellement comme c'est le cas ici. De manière générale, de tels boîtes et coffrets étaient fabriqués dans la colonie hollandaise de Batavie et ensuite importés. Toutefois, un coffret avec des telles montures figure dans les registres de 1761, présenté par l'orfèvre de la Haye Christoffel Radijs, dont on estimait qu'elles avaient été fabriqués en Asie.
