shade stamped TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 1495
base stamped TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/394- leaded glass and patinated bronze
probably designed by Clara Driscoll prior to 1906
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 18-20 cracks to the glass scattered throughout. One glass tile on the top border below the aperture has multiple cracks with an associated loss approximately 1/8 x 1/8 inch at the leadline. The shade with surface soiling throughout, particularly around the lead lines and recessed folds of the glass, which would benefit from a sensitive cleaning. The base has a particularly rich russet brown and green patina, with some light rubbing consistent with age and gentle use. The sockets and switches all appear to be original. The period finial has a few small dings and shallow bruises. The shade appears slightly less saturated and less purple in person, and is more of an indigo blue when compared to the catalogue illustration. A superb example of the model, displaying a striking color palette with intensely mottled glass. The leading on the shade is particularly well executed, and retains a deep russet brown and green patina.
