Catalogue Note

This ceramic fragment belongs to a group of pottery items of the late fourteenth and fifteenth centuries that originate from Valencia, and which depict courtly figures simply rendered amid loose floral scrolls and scattered flowers.  A comparable example can be found in CavĂro 1991, p.175, pl.178, originating from Manises, which depicts (as in this example) a princely youth in blue tunic against a vegetal ground.
