Description

  • An Ottoman silk embroidered quilt cover (yorgan yüzü)
  • approximately 219 by 173cm., 7ft. 1in. by 5ft. 6in.
the yellow silk ground finely worked with a ribbon-tied flowering branch

Condition

More lively looking as with more vibrant color in reality. Yellow silk ground with design elements in silk chain stitch embroidery. Some areas of inked design outlines showing, either never filled or with small losses to embroidery. Most embroidery intact with very minor losses in upper dark brown tree branch. The ground with abrasions and tears now sewn down to a felt-lined backing with four reinforcing bands of stitching across the piece. A small 4 by 1/2 inch piece of linen gauze sewn over a tear on the left center size. A 10 x 12 inch area in lower left corner repaired and well executed so that the eye is not drawn to it and the piece reads as complete. Small scattered dark water marks also in the lower left corner. Restored and conserved with a very handsome design and overall appearance.
