- An Ottoman silk and metal thread embroidered coverlet
- approximately 219 by 168cm., 7ft.1in. by 5ft. 5in.
Condition
Colour is less rose and more golden than it appears in the catalogue illustration.
The ground is red wool that is completely covered with gold-colored metal thread chain stitch embroidery. The design elements are embroidered in silk chain stitch with the branches and leaf veins being in silvered and gilt metal threads; the silvered now oxidized to charcoal in colour. Very small losses and abrasions to metallic ground---not serious; scattered stains and discolourations, also not extensive or serious. Open silk satin outer border trimmed with later applied metallic lacework; all sewn to red silk backing. Good overall condition.
