Catalogue Note
A similar example, exhibited at Leighton House and published Tulips, Arabesques and Turbans, Decorative Arts from the Ottoman Empire, London 1982, no.50, was sold in these rooms, 13 April 200, lot 98. This form of incense burner was rarely produced in tombak. Another notable example is in the Topkapi Saray Museum and carries an inscription reminding the reader of the beneficial effects that incense can have on the mind (Istanbul 1983, p.258, no.E261).
