the truncated conical body and socket with stepped splayed base surmounted by a flat drip tray, the cylindrical ringed shaft with pierced globular bulb, decorated throughout with an incised arabesque of interlocking split-palmettes around the body against a punched ground

Catalogue Note
The rarity of fine-quality early Ottoman metalwork is familiar to scholars and collectors in the field. This candlestick belongs to a small group dating to the late-15th /early-16th century. The bold form and confident execution are consistent with metalwork ascribed to the reign of Bayezid II (r. 1481-1512).
