Description

the hilt with marine ivory grips and applied twisted wire and silver filigree decoration set with turquoise extending to the forte, the blade with fullered back edge inscribed in gold overlay within cartouches on both sides, the black leather scabbard with silver mounts decorated in repoussé with foliate scrolls, the chape terminating in the form of a dragon's head

Condition

In good overall condition, the ivory hilt with cracking associated with age, one grip broken and restored, as viewed.

On the other side:
'Work of Master Ahmad, the owner 'Ali Agha Masha'allah, the year 1222 (1807-08)', followed by a benedictory couplet in Turkish.
