the frit body of baluster form with a compressed globular base resting on a short foot, the narrow tapering neck joined to a wide flaring fluted mouth of tulip form decorated all over with a turquoise glaze, with a customised Japanese wooden box

A fine intact example of Kashan monochrome ware.

Intact examples of this elegant shape are rare indeed. The metal prototype was naturally more robust. When fashioned out of clay the delicately-turned neck was extremely susceptible to breakage condemning the majority of this type to decapitation and repair.
