Catalogue Note
This lot depicts the Merwedekade in Dordrecht, seen from the Groothoofd and Wijnhaven. The tall building with the tower, located on the corner of the Bolwerk and Merwedekade, doesn't exist anymore. Schotel painted this view of Dordrecht, the town where he was born and worked regularly, on a winter day. The present lot shows the typical loose brushwork, for which the artist became most famous.
