mounted, signed by the photographer in ink on the mount, credited, titled, dated, numbered, and annotated in various unidentified hands in pencil on the reverse, 1956, printed later
Condition
This print, on what appears to be single-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally very good to excellent condition.
When examined in raking light, the following are visible: a faint one-inch linear impression in the sitter's right shoulder area; four small, light scratches that do not break the emulsion; a pinhead-size raised area that likely occurred during mounting, all in the lower left quadrant; and four small deposits of original retouching in the central portion of the photograph.
In high raking light, visible on the photograph's surface, are extremely faint vertical lines, possibly rendered during processing. This is visible only under the closest examination and does not detract from the photograph's appearance.
At the top edge of the front of the mount is a 1/2-by-13 1/2-inch strip of cloth tape remains, likely from a prior matting.
