Condition

The annotation by Cunningham on the reverse of the mount is 'Taken up No. Coast of Calif. - 1949.' The numbers on the reverse are 'B 11 - 30- 118' and '4157.' This impressive early print is on paper with a semi-glossy surface and is essentially in excellent condition. There is faint silvering at the outermost periphery. When the print is examined carefully in raking light, a few minor inconsistencies can be seen in the surface, all in the upper right quadrant: two small, faint scratches on the surface; two small indentations that do not break the emulsion; and a small, nearly crescent-shaped crease that likely occurred during mounting. In the lower left quadrant, a tiny area of original retouching is visible. These condition issues are only apparent after very close and critical examination; they are not immediately apparent and do not impinge upon the fine appearance of this print. The heavy white mount exhibits age-darkening at the periphery and on the reverse.
