Description

  • Johan Hagemeyer
  • 'pueblo-esque'
warm-toned, the photographer's monogram in pencil on the image, tipped to a double mount, signed, titled, and dated by the photographer in pencil on the second mount, 1922

Condition

This early warm-toned print, on matte-surface paper, on a black paper mount, and mounted again to heavy, textured beige paper, is in generally very good to excellent condition. There is slight edge wear. At the right edge, in an area about 1/2-inch wide, the tone of the print is slightly warmer. In raking light, tiny deposits of original retouching are visible, as well as very light silvering at the periphery and in the dark areas. These condition issues are typical for a print of this age. The mount exhibits edge wear, particularly at the top edge at the left, where some small pieces are missing at the upper left corner. This corner also appears to be creased on the front on the mount, while on the reverse of the mount in the same area, the top layer of the paper ply is separating. There is age-darkening at the periphery, and several small brown or rust-colored deposits of indeterminate nature at the bottom and upper edges of the mount. There is a 2 3/4-by-7 1/2-inch area of offsetting on the lower mount, where another photograph or paper might have been placed on top of the print. It appears that the print itself has not been affected. The reverse of the mount is significantly soiled, and there are rust-colored, droplet-like deposits of indeterminate nature and discoloration overall, which are more prevalent in the upper portion.
