Questa zuccheriera trae origine nella porcellana importata dalla Compagnia delle Indie, esternamente a vernice bruna e decorata a monocromia cobalto con fiori e paesaggi, chiamata Batavian Wore perchè importata attraverso lo scalo di Batavia, l'attuale Giakarta, come dimostrato da ritrovamenti recenti dei carichi delle navi affondati come il Geldermalsen del 1752.
