Due vasi medici in alabastro Roma, secolo XVII

The first one is missing the foot, replaced by a wooden one in ancient time, fractured and worn. The main body has an old fracture restored (cm 20 approx.) Both the handles are fractured twice and restored. The second vase is missing the handles. The foot is fractured and restored, with four chips (from cm 3 to 7) missing the marble. Two chips restored on the edge.

Un vaso di forma simile a questo, centrato dallo stemma Chigi è pubblicato da A. Gonzàlez-Palacios in Arredi e Ornamenti alla Corte di Roma, Milano, 2004, p.111, che lo confronta con quello della Collezione dei principi Colonna, caratterizzato da anse con protomi di arpia o di sirena.
A. Gonzàlez-Palacios mette in evidenza come l'uso di pietre tenere o alabastrine, in questo tipo di vasi, permetteva alle sculture di plasmare la materia con virtuosismo.
Lo studioso individua l'influenza dei progetti del disegnatore tosco-parigino Stefano della Bella (1610-1664), (vedi fig.1).
Una torciera tripode in legno scolpito e dipinto, coronata da un vaso di identica forma è stata venduta da Sotheby's a Milano il 19 giugno 2002, lotto n.362 ed è pubblicata come proveniente da una Collezione Privata milanese da S. Levy in Il mobile veneziano del Settecento, Milano, 1964, vol. II, tav. 333 (fig. 2).
