Condition

in good condition; pinholes at upper corners; some very minor soiling to surface: scattered light smudges, stray marks, light stains; work is hinged to backing with pieces of white tape all along the edges verso (could not examine verso for fear of damaging work); pictures of verso are with the dept.

Catalogue Note

In a copy of a letter from the artist, dated August 10, 2003, Twombly describes the present work as follows: ..the drawing is quite clear what it was done for, probably a trial drawing, as I usually did a few then we would make a choice for the poster.

Offered together with a copy of the above letter from the artist and the original frame for the work (which is briefly mentioned in the letter).   (3 pieces)

This work will be included in the forthcoming Catalogue Raisonné of Cy Twombly - Works on Paper currently being prepared by Nicola de Rosio.
