Condition

In good condition aside from slight discoloration to ink. Bottom corners worn and slightly creased. Crease along left side and small tears from binding (taken from a sletchbook). Surface dirt and small spot of foxing center left.

Catalogue Note

Although The David Smith Estate can not confirm this, the present work appears to be a signed bill of sale or contract between David Smith and R. Staub.  The sculpture 'Raven IV' is in the collection of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (gift of Joseph H. Hirshhorn in 1966).  Mr. Hirshhorn acquired it from Park-Bernet Galleries, New York, November 18, 1964, number 50.  The sculpture is signed and dated 3-14-57.   The other illustrated sculpture is titled 'Lily Pad Head' and is a unique work dated 7-15-57.  This sculpture is in the Collection of the Estate of the Artist.
