Catalogue Note

A monumental statue of Diana was originally conceived in 1886 as a gilded copper weathervane for the top of the Madison Square Garden tower in New York.  The 18-foot sculpture was too large in scale for the building and was reworked, reducing it to 13 feet, and installed in 1894.

This work is the second of two variations of the figure in the smaller scale and was modeled in 1899.  Each example of this work differs slightly with variations in the details, arrows, hair, bows and bases.
