Catalogue Note

The work is inscribed on a label attached to the reverse: It has been a beautiful warm June day and after Mother and the Aunts and George and I walked out in the sunshine, Mother said 'Let us take the picnic basket and a good piece of parkin to the Warfe's fields above Hopkin Mill', Mr Taylor (the Bank Manager) and Miss Carter (who wore pink) had just called and along they came with us. When we got to the fields there were the three Warfe sisters, and their two friends, busy trying to get the field cleared before nightfall. How glad they were for their tea and parkin and how we enjoyed taking in the last of the hay. Up at the top of the field was dear "Bonnie" Warfe, our milk horse, we should see him again in the morning when Jimmie Warfe called with the milk and the year was 1907.
