With Sotheby’s London 5 February sale of works from the collection of Marina Picasso on our minds, we took a special interest in Viktor & Rolf’s intriguing Spring/Summer 2016 Couture show. The art-minded Dutch design duo’s all white, highly abstract collection, called The Performance of Sculptures, conjured Picasso’s papiers collés and the angular visages of his female portraits.

The Cubist ensembles adorned with misplaced eyes, noses and bosoms became increasingly complex during the runway presentation in Paris, with the final architectural looks’ vision-obscuring dimensions testing the bounds of wearability. It’s hard to imagine Viktor & Rolf outdoing their Fall 2015 Couture show, in which models wore framed and folded canvases, but this avant-garde tour de force was equally as museum-worthy.
