To coincide with the drawing fairs in Paris in mid-March, Sotheby’s will be hosting four auctions at the Galerie Charpentier.
On 22 March, the Collection of Christian and Isabelle Adrien will be offered at auction. The product of a lifelong passion for the art of drawing, and guided by an outstanding curiosity and sense of quality, the collection is one of the finest to have been formed in Europe in recent decades. Made up of nearly 80 drawings, all of consistently high quality and fascinating variety, the collection includes examples of major artists including Poussin, Rubens, Salviati, Bassano, the Carracci, Lemoyne, Le Brun and Boucher, to name but a few.
Also on 22 March, the Works on Paper sale presents a superb opportunity for collectors to discover and acquire a wide variety of quality artworks to suit a variety of budgets. Important Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works as well as significant Modern works feature by masters such as Edgar Degas, René Magritte, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall and Fernand Léger.
On 23 March, our various owners sale of Impressionist & Modern Art works will be presented. Among the 20th century works offered are two portraits: one by Amedeo Modigliani of his mentor Paul Alexandre and another of two friends by Kees Van Dongen. Modernist works are a highlight of the sale with emblematic pieces by artists including Auguste Herbin and Georges Valmier.
The last auction of the week will be dedicated to further works from Dr. Brandt’s collection following the highly successful sale, held last October in Paris. Arthur Brandt, an American collector, but a Parisian at heart, has been collecting for several decades and is largely attracted to the fantastical world of Dada and Surrealism as well to traditional Modern Art. Highlights of this sale include paintings and works on paper by Braque, Chagall, Duchamp, Man Ray, Tanguy, Magritte, Max Ernst and Diego Giacometti.
