Sotheby’s Hong Kong Modern & Contemporary Southeast Asian Art Spring Sales Total HK$85 Million / US$11 Million

By Sotheby's

This season at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, Modern & Contemporary Southeast Asian Art Spring Sales achieved a total of HK$85,230,625 / US$10,994,697, led by Adrien Jean Le Mayeur de Merpès’ Balinese Women in the Garden. Works by Vietnamese artists were 90% sold across Evening and Day sales, with notable prices achieved for a number of artists including Mai Trung Thu and Le Pho.

The outstanding results from our two-day sale, with strong prices for works by both established artists and emerging names from the region, are testament to the market’s maturing demand and appreciation for the diversity of Southeast Asian art. We were especially pleased to see the extraordinary performance of works by Vietnamese artists, a market that we have been leading and cultivating for years as it continues to grow from strength to strength, as well as the strong results for prominent female artists in the region, who are increasingly coming under the spotlight on the global art scene.
Kim Chuan Mok, Sotheby’s Head of Southeast Asian Art
