Met Gala 2019: The Jewels They Wore

By Stephanie Sporn
Between headdresses and literal heads, the accessories at this year’s Met Gala were as showstopping as expected, given the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition is Camp: Notes on Fashion . With most celebrities interpreting the theme as more-is-more and anything-goes, jewels tended to take a back seat to the sea of feathers and sequins, however, a few stars certainly put jewelry at the forefront. Here are 20 of the most impressive and original jewelry looks, from Ashley Graham’s Gucci hairpins to Jennifer Lopez’s 129.48-carat purple sapphire necklace by Harry Winston.

1. Bella Hadid

Thanks to Jeremy Scott of Moschino, two ladies alone had enough jewels for virtually all of the Met Gala’s attendees: Bella Hadid and Gwen Stefani. Complementing her glittering gloves, Hadid wore 90 carats of Colombian emeralds and diamonds in her Lorraine Schwartz earrings, as well as a 40-carat emerald ring.

2. Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez in Harry Winston gives her recently gifted engagement ring a run for its money. Lopez paired Versace with Winston’s Purple Dragon necklace, featuring a 129.48-carat purple sapphire and diamonds, as well as vintage diamond chandelier earrings from 1972, Secret Cluster diamond bracelets, a cushion-cut diamond ring and finally, a sunflower diamond ring.

3. Harry Styles

Met Gala co-chair Harry Styles was the standout men’s look this year, between his Gucci ensemble and single pearl earring, which featured a whimsical bumblebee.

4. Ashley Graham

Also dressed in Gucci, Ashley Graham made her hair a canvas for jewels and pins by the Italian fashion house, as well as those by Jennifer Behr. Behr's styles include the Gemma, Perla and Gia bobby pins, and the Gretel barrette. Graham’s look is giving us major brooch inspiration!
