Charles Beddington was at Christie’s between 1983 and 1998, ultimately as head of the London Old Master Picture Department, and is well respected as the pre-eminent scholar of eighteenth century Venetian view painting, and Canaletto in particular. He has curated exhibitions at the National Gallery, London, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., the Yale Center for British Art, the Dulwich Picture Gallery and elsewhere, and has published numerous articles.
