Charity Auction to Raise Funds for Royal Academy School

N ow in its eleventh year the annual Royal Academy School Auction and Dinner, supported by Sotheby’s, continues to help promote and raise funds for Britain’s longest established contemporary art school. Featuring works by leading contemporary artists alongside recent graduates, the money raised by the auction will go towards supporting the future artists of tomorrow.

The RA Schools programme is tailor-made to the individual student, affording each artist the space and flexibility to develop work across the breadth of contemporary art media. Yinka Shonibare RA, guest speaker at the dinner says:  “I am honoured to be the guest speaker at the 11^th annual Royal Academy Schools fundraising dinner and auction. As an artist I value the exceptional egalitarian art education provided by the RA Schools. The RA Schools is unique in being the longest serving art school and the only free three year art postgraduate course in the country”.

Following a week’s preview exhibition of the works at Sotheby’s, a selection of the works will be on display at The English Tea Room at London’s Brown’s Hotel on Albemarle street until 12^th March, ahead of the auction on Tuesday 14^th March that offers the chance to acquire works by some of the most exciting contemporary artists of today, including Wolfgang Tillmans, Antony Gormley and Chantal Joffe.

This year Royal Academicians Bill Woodrow, Eileen Cooper and Farshid Moussavi, as well as other artists and designers, such as Liberty of London, are contributing by decorating special hard hats made out of jesmonite in reference to the Royal Academy’s transformative redevelopment which will be completed in 2018, in time for the Academy’s 250^th anniversary.

These hard hats, together with special experiences, such as a day of printmaking at the RA Schools or portrait session with Royal Academician Michael Landy, will all be auctioned ahead of the dinner and are available now for online bidding via the website.
