F or the second time this year, The Invisible Collection will take over the exclusive Preferred Members’ Room at Sotheby’s London and furnish it with a specially-curated selection of iconic pieces by famed French designer, Pierre Paulin. The Invisible Collection represents the stars of contemporary design, providing a state-of-the-art platform to sell their bespoke collections online.
During Sotheby’s’ fortnight of Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary auctions, guest collectors and preferred members will have the chance to experience first-hand the sculptural forms, geometric patterns and bold colours that are so associated with Paulin’s legendary designs. The Invisible Collection founders, Anna Zaoui and Isabelle Dubern, have personally selected the pieces of furniture and objects on display in the Preferred Lounge, celebrating the lasting legacy and trailblazing work of this most extraordinary designer.
Known and revered worldwide, Paulin’s designs have enduring appeal to a vast group of in-the-know collectors – from Georges Pompidou himself to Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicholas Ghesquière. The inherent modernity, the bold design and the approach to new textiles of each piece are timeless, and a true testament to Paulin’s innovative thinking in terms of the Art of Design. When looking at his work we experience a sense of architectural wonder paired with a feeling of familiar comfort: this is what great design must feel like!
“We are delighted to celebrate The Invisible Collection’s third anniversary by presenting Pierre Paulin's iconic furniture in such a prestigious venue,” say Isabelle Dubern and Anna Zaoui. “Thanks to the precious help of Paulin Paulin Paulin, (the designer’s estate represented and run by his family), we pay tribute to one of the world's leading designers who anticipated the essential role of collectible design. The Invisible Collection pursues the same goal by promoting today’s most talented interior designers and architects, whose work is relevant, original, and collectible”.
Reserved until now to a unique insider network, not only is The Invisible Collection the first site to have access to an exclusive inventory of furniture creations, but also the first to make them accessible to a wider audience, internationally. Thanks to its informed and experienced team, committed to the great traditions of the decorative arts and collectible design, The Invisible Collection is set to become the Net-à-Porter of contemporary design; each piece made to order by the best craftspeople in the world, delivered with white-glove service.
Working closely with Paulin’s estate, The Invisible Collection founders have handpicked a series of pieces which best represent the designer’s vision. The arrangement in the room is a masterful reminder of Paulin’s versatile creativity, and effortless elegance. His fascination for seating is celebrated with a choice of truly iconic pieces: the Big C Sofa, the Tapis-Siège, the Alpha Club armchairs, the F050 chairs, the Elysée stools. The highlights of the presentation include a stunning Cathédrale table, and a rarely seen series of side-tables from the renowned Elysée Collection that Paulin designed in 1970, when he refurbished the presidential residence of Georges Pompidou. The entire décor is an invitation to let one’s imagination run free between a cool pop atmosphere and a bold contemporary feel.
