Biography
Monika Merchan is a Senior Vice President in Sotheby’s Financial Services covering the Americas. As a Lending Specialist, she provides clients financing secured by fine art and luxury goods, including collectors, families, galleries, and dealers. Monika has experience with the world’s largest private art collectors, offering them advice and capital solutions for more than two decades.
Prior to joining Sotheby’s in April 2023, Monika was a Senior Lending Specialist for J.P. Morgan Private Bank, where she led the Los Angeles Lending Team to drive year-over-year growth for the firm. Over the course of her 22-year career, she partnered with clients to finance their investments in commercial real estate, fine art, aircraft and private companies.
Monika previously practiced as a Trust and Estate attorney in Los Angeles, focused on commercial real estate clients.
Monika graduated with honors from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Business Administration at the Haas Business School. She received her Juris Doctorate from Southwestern Law School and practiced for four years before returning to a lending capacity. Currently, she sits on the board of the Saint Paul of Apostle and lives in Los Angeles, CA (USA) with her husband William and their three children.
