George North is European Head of Collection Sale Management and Senior Director in Major Collections at Sotheby’s. Since joining Sotheby's in 2012, he has played a pivotal role in bringing some of the world’s most significant collections across all collecting categories to market. Highlights to date include: The Collection of Freddie Mercury, The Karpidas Family Collections, The Collection of Sir Joseph Hotung, and The Family Collection of the Countess Mountbatten of Burma. Working closely with Sotheby’s leadership, George has led high-profile initiatives that, through thoughtful strategy and collaboration, have delivered landmark successes for Sotheby's and, most importantly, for Sotheby's clients. Another key focus for George is the stewardship of private collections. This stewardship has included advising on loans to public institutions, staging exhibitions in exceptional global locations, and consulting on sales.

Throughout his career, George has been recognised for combining creativity with a rigorous, measured, and team-oriented approach. He is valued for his ability to build trust with clients, guide the Sotheby's team through complex projects, and contribute to Sotheby’s global initiatives. With a degree in English Literature and more than a decade of experience across the business, George brings both perspective and commitment to his role in shaping Sotheby’s most important sales.

Separately, George regularly takes to the rostrum on behalf of Sotheby's, particularly for charity, and in this capacity has supported fundraising for a diverse range of important causes.
