This was the first film in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and was directed by Peter Jackson. It is based on the first of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings books, The Fellowship of the Ring, published in 1954. The cast includes Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Sean Bean, Ian Holm and Andy Serkis. The film is set in Middle-earth, and tells the story of the Dark Lord Sauron (Sala Baker), who had created the One Ring to rule all other Rings of Power, and which would help him eventually conquer and rule the entire Middle-earth. The Ring has found its way to a young hobbit Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), who with eight companions form The Fellowship of the Ring, and start their journey to the only place where The Ring can be destroyed.
