George IV
Document signed, as Prince Regent ("George PR")
a warrant addressed to the Lord Chancellor, Lord Eldon, ordering the ratification of three additional articles to the 1815 Treaty of Paris, agreed at a convention concluded 25 April 1818, confirming that 450,000 francs are owed by the Government of France to British subjects "relative to the British Merchandize introduced into Bordeaux in consequence of the Tarif of Customs published the Twenty fourth of March 1814", as part of the pecuniary indemnity agreed in 1815, also signed by Viscount Castlereagh, incorporating a copy of the articles, 8 pages, folio, integral blank, papered royal seal, docketed, Carlton House, 31 July 1818
The 1815 Treaty of Paris had demanded France pay 700 million francs in indemnities. This sum was broken down in more detail at the subsequent 1818 Convention, where it was agreed that payments due to British subjects who had suffered loss of property in France since 1791 totalled 3 million francs.
