This large-scale fox-hunting scene centers on a full cry, an exhilarating turn of events when the entire pack of hounds, running with mouths open, cries on the line of a fox. Lead by the Field Master, sounding a hunting horn, the rest of the field follows in pursuit of the quarry.

Francis Sartorius was the second of four generations of sporting artists: John (ca. 1700-ca. 1780), originally from Nuremberg, Francis (1734-1804), John Nost (17590-1828), born in London, and John Francis (ca. 1775-1931).
