Description

MARIE-GENEVIÈVE BOULIARD

Paris 1763 - 1825 Saône-et-Loire

PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN, BUST LENGTH

oil on canvas

canvas: 18⅛ by 15 in.; 46 by 38 cm.

framed: 26 by 22½ in.; 66 by 57.2 cm.

With Charles Brummer, Paris, circa 1928;

Acquired by the mother of the present owner circa 1985 in France.

Bouliard was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725 - 1805) and exhibited in the Paris Salon in 1795. This delicate painting, which shows the shoulder of the sitter at center as she turns her head to softly gaze at the viewer, recalls Greuze's compositions.
