This silent cinema epic celebrated its 100th anniversary last year.
This American silent epic adventure film was directed by Fred Niblo and was based on the novel of the same name. The film stars Ramon Novarro in the title role. The film tells the story of Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince, who was wrongly imprisoned as a result of his boyhood friend Messala's corrupt ways. Judah Ben-Hur is sent off as a galley slave, and his mother and sister are imprisoned. Owing to Judah Ben-Hur's tenacity to stay alive, he returns to his homeland, and not able to find his mother and sister, who he believes are dead, he takes revenge against Messala.
