Description
THE MARK OF ZORRO / IL SEGNO DI ZORRO. Anselmo Ballester, 1940.
Foglio poster, linen backed, unframed: 39 x 27 in. (99 x 69 cm)
The artist Anselmo Ballester was famous for his beautiful film poster art and designed more than five hundred posters over a 45-year period. He is known for his work with the independent distribution company Minerva Films and with BCM, a company he created with Luigi Martinati and Alfredo Capitani, which specialised in film poster design. Ballester also worked extensively for Columbia Pictures.
Exceptionally rare. This poster has only surfaced a few times.
This American black-and-white swashbuckler was directed by Rouben Mamoulian and produced by Darryl F. Zanuck, and stars Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell and Basil Rathbone. The film is based on Johnston McCulley’s 1919 novel The Curse of Capistrano, which introduced the masked hero Zorro.
