Daniel I Schanck was the sixth child of 14 children to Revolutionary War hero, Captain John Schanck, born in 1778. Daniel's brothers Garret and John were silversmiths in New York City and Middletown Point, today Matawan, New Jersey. Daniel lived in Pleasant Valley, Middletown, now part of Holmdel, New Jersey, as a farmer and businessman. Eleanor Schanck was the eighth child of Garret G. Schanck and Sarah R. Conover, and was born in 1783. They were first cousins as their fathers were brothers and had no children. Eleanor died July 15, 1858 and Daniel died three months later on October 23, 1858.
