The Reference 43040 houses an ingenious mechanism with a rotating minutes pointer in a sunken channel, and hours that changed instantaneously in the aperture at 12 o'clock, 'jumping' at the stroke of the hour. Taking its inspiration from the Art Deco period, during which many prominent watch brands such as Cartier, Audemars Piguet, Breguet and Vacheron & Constantin produced watches with the jump hour complication, the 43040 is also nicknamed the 'Saltarello', an Italian dance and music genre originated in the 14th century, named for its characteristic hopping step derived from the Italian saltare, meaning 'to jump'.

In production for only four years, approximately 192 examples of the 43040 were crafted in gold and 131 examples in platinum. We are pleased to offer the present 43040/000P-19 in platinum in wonderfully preserved condition, accompanied by its original presentation box and hangtag.
