Each a woodblock print, signed U. Azechi in roman letters, with artist's seal ume, and comprising:

- Mourning Mountaineer (Nageku yama otoko), 1957, edition number 79/150

- Three Shouting Men (Sakebu sannin), 1963, artist's proof

- Snowman (Yuki otoko), circa 1959-60, edition number 5/100

- Voice of the Winter Mountain (Shoto no koe), 1963

The first and second vertical dai oban, the third and fourth vertical oban:

The first: 62 x 41 cm.

The second: 61 x 45 cm.

The third: 34.1 x 23.6 cm. 

The fourth: 37.2 x 27.8 cm.

Umetaro Azechi was a sosaku-hanga artist known for his bold and minimal prints of scenes depicting mountains and mountaineers. An accomplished mountaineer himself, his love of this pursuit is encapsulated in his wonderfully characterful portraits of fellow mountaineers, local people and the landscape. He continued to vigorously ascend mountains into his 80s. Azechi exhibited with the Nihon Sosaku-Hanga Kyokai (Japan Creative Print Association), the College Women's Association of Japan, and his work featured in many international exhibitions. His work has also entered numerous international museum collections including The British Museum and The Art Institute of Chicago.
