Autograph letter signed ("I. Tourguéneff"), in French, to [the artist Edmond Hédouin], ABOUT HIS CELEBRATED PORTRAIT
informing him that the requested thousand francs will be sent to him tomorrow, telling him of the praise the portrait has garnered, requesting one or two proofs, and explaining that he has decided to remove the signature,
"...Je me suis décidé à supprimer entièrement l'autographe...cela ferait, comme vous le dites, un déplorable effet sous l'eau forte. Ainsi point d'autographe..."
2 pages, 8vo (20.5 x 12.9cm), integral blank, the writer's embossed initials "IT" to integral, Karlsruhe, 13 January 1869, splitting along folds, small tear to lower margin, slightly affecting text
