First edition of a collection of dialogues describing the intellectual life of the court of Ferrara in the time of Leonello d'Este (1441-1450), including mentions of the Este libraries and their organisation. The text was printed from a manuscript stolen from the Vatican Library during the Sack of Rome in 1527. An important study of its content is M. Baxandall, "A Dialogue on Art from the Court of Leonello d'Este", Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes, 26, 1963, pp.304-326. A second edition (same recension) was printed at Basel in 1562.

binding: Contemporary German blind-tooled half pigskin over wooden boards (316 x 214 mm), 2 metal clasps, plain edges, horizontal fore-edge title with "Politiae 125". (Minor worming.)
