Where acquired.

An istoriato vase with similarly designed snake handles belonging to Medici collection is in the Museo del Bargello, Florence and is illustrated by Marini in Maioliche e ceramiche del Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Turin, 2024, no. 287, pp. 226-227. In addition, a similarly shaped istoriato vase is in the Louvre; illustrated by J. Giacomotti, Catalogue des majoliques des musées nationaux, Paris 1974, cat.no.1032. This vase shows a manner of painting similar to that of lot 10, displaying a typical Fontana workshop style but are most likely decorated by different painters.
